“I couldn’t believe it when the letter landed on the door mat,” said Paula. “After the initial shock, I knew straight away what I was going to use the money to buy – a top of the range cooker!”

One jackpot winner, Paula, has always been a big supporter of St Luke’s – both playing the lottery and taking part in our big events such as the Midnight Walk.

And it was when Paula’s sister was taken ill that she began to see first hand just how important the money generated by the lottery is to patients and their relatives.

“My sister Sarah had lung cancer and sadly passed away three years ago. She spent time between the St Luke’s at Turnchapel and also received care by the St Luke’s nurses who provided care at her home. It was important for her to be at home and the hospice made this possible. We can’t thank them enough for the care they gave my sister, and the general public who make this care possible.”

“Everybody in the area knows what a great job St Luke’s does, but when it happens to someone close to you, you really begin to appreciate how your support makes such a difference.”

“Go on give it a go, you could be as lucky as me and help care for local people at the same time. It’s so easy to play, once you’ve set up your direct debit it all takes care of itself.”
